The pegs are threaded to make it easier to remove and insert them in the winder. It is suggested that you apply a nice paste wax to the threads to make them easier to use. One peg has not knob to make it easier to remove your skeins. The counter has metal internals and the manufacturer says it should last for at least 5 million counts. The counter is mounted on a moveable base and swings out of the way when the winder is turned in the opposite direction.
The unit is finished with a single coat of Tung Oil.
