Star St. Nicholas of Mariners A ship in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, caught by a storm, became grounded. The sailors on board prayed to St. Nicholas for help. In a short time, he appeared and helped the sailors right and free the ship from shallow waters. At that point, St. Nicholas vanished. When the sailors landed safely on the shore, they went to the Cathedral to give thanks- there stood St. Nicholas. They asked St. Nicholas how he could hear their pleas for help. St. Nicholas replied that a life devoted to God, allows one to see and hear those in need. In our daily lives, shouldn't we be hearing and helping those in need? St. Nicholas carries a banner with a holiday miter-a sign of how powerful Christmas should be in our daily lives. He also carries an anchor- a reminder that Jesus Christ is our ultimate hope.
