In making this version for the Euphonium Mr. Sauer has used all of Telemann’s original tempos, slurs and dynamics, and expanded on these ideas when appropriate. This edition has been customized for the Euphonium, ie., the keys have been changed from the original to best fit the tessitura of the instrument, breath marks added & ornaments used when appropriate. The 1st movement opens with a majestic unison theme, as the four Trombones announce the arrival of the King. "Tea Dance" begins with a Bass Trombone cadenza, and develops into a lyrical representation of an elegant afternoon occasion. No, you are not wrong. This very interesting transcription blends together two all time favorite Christmas songs, both beautifully transcribed by the very talented arranger trumpeter, Dean McNeil. This work which combines the two works in tandem begins in "Scotland" with a haunting bagpipe drone effect played by the trombone and tuba. A wonderful collection of Traditional Christmas Carols in a jazz style for Trumpet in Bb and Piano arranged by British arranger and Trumpeter, Keith Terrett. The Carols included are: Ding Dong Merrily On High, Silent Night, We Three Kings, Away in a Manger, Joy to the World, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Deck the Halls & Good King Wenceslas. The Trumpet part is all written out with jazz inflections and articulation included. The Piano part is all written out, but also includes the jazz chords for players who wish to "comp". Three 16th Century Renaissance Chansons have been beautifully scored for Trombone Quartet by Dr. Karl Hinterbichler. The Old 100th Hymn or "Doxology" has been part of Protestant worship services since the 16th century. Many settings of it have been arranged for different musical combinations.
